Case study 04 / 06

From a Kitchen Table to a Warehouse.

Started with no team and no funding. We sorted the pricing and the message first, then the ads, then rebuilt the site around one action: buy.

Started in a basement, scaled to a warehouse

What we made

What we built for them.

The Wick of Hope website

Rebuilt around one action. The bundle and the subscribe option moved onto the home page, above everything else, and half the pages came out.

The problem

What they came to us with.

The product was good and the margin was not. Everything had been priced off what it cost to make rather than off what it was worth, which left nothing to spend on reaching anybody - so the first job was not an ad account at all.

The site was a template with the catalogue dropped into it. Nine things to click on the home page and none of them the one that mattered.

How we did it

How we did it.

  1. Priced it before running anything.A margin that could carry an ad budget, arrived at by looking at what the brand was worth rather than at what the wax cost.
  2. Rebuilt the site around one action.Bundle and subscribe, on the home page, above everything else. Half the pages came out.
  3. Creative that showed the making. The hand-poured part was the whole reason to pay more for it, so it went in the ads rather than in an About page nobody read.
  4. Scaled on contribution, not on revenue.Spend went up only where the money left after the product and the shipping went up with it.
In their words

What they said after.

We launched with nothing. Ninety days later we were doing ten thousand a month and had a site that finally matched the brand.
